The Ideal Home
exhibition soundtrack design 1999

Nigel Coates won a competition to produce a new type of modern prefabricated living space
which was exhibited at the Daily Mail Ideal Home Exhibition at Olympia, London in 1998.

I did the sound design for the house by adding the
sounds of the invisible inhabitants to all the rooms.

Nigel Coates's oyster house takes the idea of loft living that is already establishing itself in
the urban apartment market and applies it to a house. In the way that lofts offer a space for
you to use your own way, this house reflects the changes in how people live together and
the real life extensions of the family group to incorporate work, friends and relations".

The show drew crowds in excess of 500,000 with the
Oyster House being one of the main attractions.
